That’s us!

„We get involved, where children are in need”

On the radio Axel Springer heard that every year almost 1.500 children get killed by traffic accidents. His plan was clear: BILD, Europe’s biggest newspaper should contribute to lowering these terrifying numbers.

Millions of people joined the plan

The red “Ein Herz für Kinder” sticker was designed and this was the beginning of the great BILD-charity organization. Millions of car drivers put the famous stickers on their cars to show their awareness in traffic.

Since then “Ein Herz für Kinder” is fighting for more traffic lights, more zebra-crossing, traffic calming areas and play streets. It was a success! The number of children, killed by traffic accidents was reduced!

„Ein Herz für Kinder” – an international charity organization

What started as a campaign for more traffic safety in Germany, soon became an international charity organization.

Today it is about the most vulnerable – the children. Our emphasis is in Germany, because also here children and families need support. However also abroad “Ein Herz für Kinder” helps, where children are victims of cruel wars, where homes of children are destroyed by devastating natural disasters or where is no qualified medical care in their home countries available to them.

In short: “Ein Herz für Kinder” gets involved where children are in need and require help. Every cent of your donation goes directly to charity projects for children.

What we stand for:

Since the foundation of „Ein Herz für Kinder“ our core goals have not changed. If safety for children in traffic was initially in the fore, education, health, poverty reduction and environmental protection are always central aspects of our work, as these topics also affect the weakest in our society.

In our guidelines we summarize nine topics, in which “Ein Herz für Kinder” is engaged:

„Ein Herz für Kinder“…

Axel Springer was guided by a sentence which is today still up to date: “Be nice to each other”, which means: Help each other and especially: Have a heart for children.

The Committees

As a registered association BILD hilft e.V. is legally, organizationally and financially self-dependent. The association pursues exclusively and directly nonprofit and beneficent purposes.

The governing framework of the association consists of the general meeting, the executive board and the curatorship. All five members of the executive board and the curators operate complimentarily.

The general meeting

The general meeting is the supreme governing body of BILD hilft e.V. It executes amongst others the election and withdrawal of members of the the executive board and the curatorship, as well as the permission of the submitted annual statement of the executive board. Moreover it decides the admission or exclusion of association members and enacts modifications to the statues. The general meeting takes place annually.

Executive board

The executive board is elected by the general meeting to serve for a period of three years. The board manages the current business, plans the strategic direction of the association and determines the application of funds in the frequent board meetings. The executive board is supported by a full-time manager and currently 10 employees.

Afterwards this report is certificated to common public interest by the fiscal authorities Hamburg-Nord (tax number 17/400/03832)

How is the executive board going to be paid?

All five members of the executive board as well as the members of the curatorship work voluntarily.

What is going to happen with the donation money?

The donations, which are generated during the TV-gala and during the course of the year, are used by BILD hilft e.V. “Ein Herz für Kinder” for a big part for projects in Germany. Further donations are used for international charity children projects, which are executed independently, mostly by international active, well-respected partner organizations.  The project partners are obligated to provice the costs- and investment plans in detailed form as well as frequent reports of progress, where the achievements and the effects of the projects are visual. Donations, which are generated during the TV-gala and over the year, are going into projects within one year.

Who decides about the distribution?

Every day “Ein Herz für Kinder” receives a dozen of requests for subsidies from all over the world. Every single request is subordinated by a control procedure. On this basis the executive board decides about the distribution of donation money.
